DAMMAM, SAUDI ARABIA: A private van driver faces charges of criminal negligence following the death on Sunday of a five-year-old girl who was left unattended for five hours in the vehicle in the full glare of the sun outside the International Indian School in Dammam’s Al-Raka district.
The kindergartener, Fida Haris, started attending the school only two months ago. Authorities allege the driver forgot to ensure she came off the 15-seater van when he dropped off other children at the school in the morning. Ostensibly the child dozed off and remained inside the van, which had tinted windows.
On a day when mercury reached 47 degrees Celsius, school officials said Fida apparently suffocated inside the vehicle. “Her body had turned pale because of lack of oxygen and the intensity of the heat,” said her class teacher Gita Radhakrishnan. “It was a horrible sight.”
As was the routine, the driver of the passenger van picked up the child along with her elder sister and a dozen other children from their homes in downtown Dammam between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. He then dropped some of the children off at the school’s girls section and brought the boys and kindergarten children to the school’s main building.
It was here that he forgot to take Fida off. All the other children got off and went to their classes. The driver assumed Fida also went to her UKG-A class.
Private van drivers park their vehicles near the Indian school and travel back together to Dammam or Alkhobar returning later at home time. Fida was left in a parked van near Gate No. 4 in the full glare of the sun. The Indian school is located in a sparsely populated area of Al-Raka district. The building has multiple entrances, but once the children arrive only the main gate remains open. If a child cried for help in a van near the side gates, there is little chance of anybody noticing.
“Yes, a five-year-old is capable of knocking on the van doors. She must have done that but there was nobody to listen to her cries nor was there anybody to notice the struggle for life inside the van,” explained Fida’s class teacher.
The driver, who has been identified as Naushad from the Indian state of Kerala, returned with the other drivers at 12 p.m. to pick up the kindergarten children. He realized what had happened only when he unlocked the van’s doors. He panicked and called one of his driver friends, Satish, and explained what had happened. Naushad, then, ran away.
Satish found the lifeless child in her red-and-white uniform and called in the senior teacher. She immediately identified her as Fida. “It came as a shock to me. In the class register she was listed as absent today,” said Radhakrishnan.
Satish took Fida to the school’s first aid room. She was later transported to the nearby Astoon Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital staff notified police of her death and criminal negligence charges were filed against the driver who later surrendered himself to Dhahran police in the evening.
Fida’s grief-stricken parents, Muhammad and Sajana Haris, also from Kerala, were consoled by school officials, teachers and members of the local Indian community.
As news of the youngster’s death spread throughout the school and among the Indian community, there were highly emotional scenes with children and teachers bursting into tears.
IISD Principal E.K. Mohammed Shaffe said there were no words to describe the tragedy. “It is beyond shocking. The little one died just next to where we work day in and day out,” he said.
There are 16,000 boys and girls enrolled at the Indian school in Dammam. Boys and girls sections are separately located in the Al-Raka district. Since the main building is unable to house all students, the school’s management has secured nearby villas to house classrooms.
The school’s transportation system is overburdened and there are only 70 coaches to ferry students. These coaches, which belong to the Saudi Public Transport Co. (SAPTCO), are considered safe. However, they accommodate only 3,000 of the school’s 16,000 students. The rest come and leave school via private passenger vans. The school has absolutely no control over them.
According to one estimate, there are more than 3,000 private van operators transporting children to school in Dammam on a daily basis. Not all parents are happy to send their children to school in private vans but have no other options. Even in areas where the school’s SAPTCO coaches operate, children usually have to be shuttled to the nearest stop, something that encourages many parents to opt for private vans, which pick up children from their doorsteps.
Indian community elders have called for a thorough revamp of the school’s transportation system and the way that private vans operate.
“They are not accountable to anybody. They are arrogant and parents are at the mercy of their whims. They don’t have proper air conditioners; the drivers drive madly on the highway. Parents refuse to speak against them because then there will be nobody to ferry their children to school. They are a mafia and they need to be held accountable,” said Muhammad Shadab, whose children regularly complain of irresponsible van operators.
School Chairman John Thomas said everything that needs to be done will be done. “This is so tragic. We lost an innocent life,” he said.
For parents with children at the school, the tragedy is far too close to home.
“The first thing I did after hearing the news was to hold my four-year-old daughter tightly and cry out loud. In my mind’s eye I was trying to imagine the situation little Fida was in. Poor girl -- she must have tried so hard to escape that situation. There was nobody to listen to her. What a painful death it must have been,” said Sameena Sajid, whose two daughters are enrolled at the same school. “My children refused to say anything or eat anything after they came back from school. They are in shock.”
Fida!...Kabhi Albida Na Kahna!
Fida!..Never say Good Bye!
Hey Fida, you’ll be remembered
By everybody who read the news
You are really brave even though
You lost at last…..
I know you were struggling
When others were enjoying
When others were in air conditioned rooms
You were alone….all alone.
You forgot to get up when reached school
Nobody found you, nobody searched for you
You were all alone trying to reach out
Helping hands did not appear there
Your mother helps you to take food
Your father helps you to walk in the street
Your sister helps you to play
Nobody there to help when you in need
You tried to knock the door
But forgot to put horn
You tried to eat food and drink water
But nothing could help you to survive
Outside temperature raising
Whole vehicle became like a frying pan
No air to breath and suffocation started
Nobody there to hear your cries
You were crying and wilting
Slowly and steadily
You tried to open the door
It was heavy for you to open
You tried to lie down
Even platform of vehicle also hot
Sun is coming up with piercing rays
Increasing the temperature
Slowly your eyes started closing
Body started aching
No energy to cry
Blackness coming all over
You wanted scream
Mother came in your thoughts
Came to pick you up
Father also was there
Sister was coming near to you
To hold you for security
Who else was there
Death was coming closer to you
I can’t write anymore
My eyes are wet
Hands are shaking
Mind is shivering

Longing to Live
World having full of hopes
Hopes embedded with love
Love Carries life itself
Breeze brings happiness
Storm brings sadness
Is there anything there
Between Happiness and Sadness
Searching still in the crowd
As a wanderer as I been before
As an observer for everything
But inactive as usual
I’m an irresolute to decide
On which is my favorite
Still searching for a one
Until I find it by myself
Are you there for me to feel?
Virtually a reality
I don’t know how to express
My gratitude to you.

King Cobra in Town
Preface: Thoughts written below after seeing news reports that King Cobras from deep forest came to down towns of Forest in Kerala.
I’m the king of cobras
But now I am starving
No feed is available in my kingdom
So I came down
I hate humans and their behavior
Because they cut the forest
Very hot in summer
Since there are no trees
My preys are not available
Since they are dead
Due to dehydration
And forest fires
Forest fires are not natural
Made purposefully by humans
For the sake of charcoal
How can I live in my kingdom
My niche is damaged
My place is damaged
My kingdom is damaged
How can I live there?
I don’t want to hurt human
Or their siblings
But they hurt me a lot
Directly and indirectly.
I can bite anybody
I don’t bite anybody
Since I bite only my preys
In order to subside my hunger
Tell me what I have to do?
Tell me where I have to go?
Tell me whom I can trust?
Tell me what to do next?

Food Shortage vs Food Wastage
FOOD SHORTAGE vs FOOD WASTAGE
Preface:
I heard in BBC Radio one day morning that Somalia is suffering with acute food shortage. There was an interview with an unknown woman of Somalia village that she used to take maize powder and some times she used to take Animal Feed in order to subside the hunger. This is a horrific situation. Also, she told that when she eat animal feed, she used to feel burning sensation inside the stomach. Just think about others who are blessed with food and wasting food everyday without thinking of their brothers and sisters in other part of world. I am seeing here everyday near to a restaurant that plenty of food is wasted. How can we justify this to world, our conscious, ultimately GOD.
Oh God, why we are wasting food?
Millions are longing for grains even.
Teach children not to waste food
Take only whatever required
Preaching is very easy here
But implementing is so difficult
My Dad taught me not to waste any food
Since food is considered as God’s gift
Thank God for giving us food everyday
Inculcate a culture not to waste food
Water as well since both are going to be
In acute scarcity and everybody’ll die for it
Now did I make you to think
About your own deed while eating
If so, I am satisfied and my purpose
Of writing this is served
Oh God, put seed on this to everybody’s mind
Let them not spill water and waste food
Teach everybody in dinner party
Not to waste water and food.

Idukki Collector Transferred again
| Chief Minister says there were complaints against him |
Pls Read the following details and think about RAJU NARAYANASWAMY IAS
First Rank in State in Secondary School Examination
First Rank in University in Plus Two
First Rank in IIT Entrance Examination
First Rank in All India IIT Computer Science
First Rank in IAS Entrance Examination
First Rank in IAS Training Institute
On passing out from IIT Chennai Mr. Narayanaswamy was offered
scholarship by the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
USA . He who came from a middle class family believed that he had a
moral obligation to give something in return for the lakhs of rupees
the government spent on him as an IIT student. He had the intelligence
and conviction to realize that this money came also from the poorest
of the poor - who pay up the excise duty on textiles when they buy
cloth, who pay up customs, excise and sales tax on diesel when they
travel in a bus, and in numerous other ways indirectly pay the
government. So he decided to join IAS hoping he could do something
for the people of this country. How many young men have the will power to
resist such an offer from USA ? Narayanaswamy did never look at IAS
as a black money spinner as his later life bears testimony to this fact.
After a decade of meritorious service in IAS, today, Narayanaswamy is
being forced out of the IAS profession. Do you know why?
A real estate agent wanted to fill up a paddy field which is banned
under law. An application came up before Narayanaswamy who was sub
collector the, for an exemption from this rule for this plot of land.
Upon visiting the site he found that the complaint from 60 poor
families that they will face water logging due to the waste water
from a nearby Government Medical College if this paddy field was filled up
was correct. Narayanswamy came under intense political pressure but
he did what was right - refused permission for filling up the paddy
field. That was his first confrontation with politicians.
Soon after his marriage his father-in-law closed down a public road
to build compound wall for his plot of land. People approached
Narayanaswamy with complaint.
When talking with his own father-in-law did not help, he removed the
obstructing wall with police help. The result, his marriage broke up.
As district Collector he raided the house of a liquor baron who had
defaulted Rupees 11 crores payment to government and carried out
revenue recovery. A Minister directly telephoned him and ordered to
return the forfeited articles to the house of the liquor baron.
Narayanswamy politely replied that it is difficult. The minister
replied that Narayanaswamy will suffer.
In his district it was a practice to collect crores of rupees for
earthen bunds meant for poor farmers, but which were never
constructed. A bill for rupees 8 crores came up before Narayanaswamy.
He inspected the bund. He found it very weak and said that he will
pass the bill after the rainy season to ensure that the bund served
the purpose. As expected the earthen bund was too weak to stand the
rain and it disappeared in the rain. But he created a lot of enemies
for saving 8 crores public money. The net result of all such unholy
activities was that he was asked to go on leave by the government.
Later such an illustrious officer was posted as "State Co-Ordinator,
Quality Improvement Programme for Schools". This is what the
politician will do to a honest officer with backbone - post him in
the most powerless position to teach him a lesson. Since he found that
nothing can be achieved for the people if he continued with the State
Service he opted for central service. But that too was denied on some
technical ground.
What will you do when you have a brilliant computer career anywhere
in the world you choose with the backing of several advanced technical
papers too published in international journals to your credit?
When you are powerless to do anything for the people, why should you
waste your life as the Co-Ordinator for a Schools Programme?
Mr. Narayanaswamy is on the verge of leaving IAS to go to Paris to
take up a well paid United Nations assignment. The politicians can
laugh thinking another obstacle has been removed. But it is the
helpless people of this country who will lose - not Narayanaswamy.
But you have the power to support capable and honest bureaucra ts like
Narayaswamy, G.R.Khairnar and Alphons Kannamthanam who have suffered
a lot under self seeking politicians who rule us. You have even the
power to replace such politicians with these kind of people dedicated
to the country. The question is will you do the little you can do
NOW? At least a vote or word in support of such personalities?
Now again transferred from Idukki to Pathanamthitta now for taking stern action against then Minister Mr.T.U. Kuruvila and for finding proof against Mr.P.J.Joseph regarding illegal possession of forest land.
Please pass on this information to your friends

understand your objective, you will be wasting your time in actions.
Know your objective first " - Swami Vivekananda
